The University of Michigan Entertainment Coalition Mentorship Committee is ready to place excited mentees with experienced mentors throughout the year on a rolling basis. Although UMEC is bi-coastal with committees in Los Angeles and New York, this Mentorship Program is directed towards current students or alumni that are either based in Los Angeles or moving to Los Angeles. The Mentorship Program’s mission is to cultivate and promote the variety talents that graduate from the University of Michigan with an interest in the entertainment industry. As alumni at the beginning stage of your career, we realize that a career in this business is a challenging and uncertain one with no clear path. The Mentorship Program is an opportunity to help you develop your knowledge of the industry and give you an extra edge. Whether you are interested in the business or creative side, we seek to place you with a mentor that will suit your passions and goals. During the program, your mentor will share with you his/her expertise and encourage your development over a six-month period that will begin as soon as we find a match for you. The minimum commitment that we ask is one meeting per month, whether in person, by e-mail, or over the phone and email. Within the comfort level and ability of both you and your mentor, this will include career guidance, feedback, and general support. We are also going to recommend a few different tasks that could bring a more active and fun element to the mentor-mentee relationship i.e write a treatment for a script, make 5 new contacts in the industry, learn the names of all the studio heads. We will hold several Mentorship Mixers throughout the year, where all participants can mingle with each other to foster peer-to-peer relationships, and to allow for a relaxed environment in which you can interact with your mentor. At the end of six months, we may offer the opportunity to extend your official relationship for up to three additional months, based on the availability and willingness of you and your mentor. The current application period is November 15th, 2006 – January 15th, 2007, and the mentorship period will begin on February 15th, 2007 and officially ends on August 15th, 2007. 2006 Mentorship Submissions are closed, please join the program in 2007! |
