UMEC'er Zack Evans Finishes Trailer for New Horror Project

UMEC'er Zack Evans and his producing partner Drew Masters and have optioned a unique and disturbing feature-length horror script called Outlier, by two immensely talented writers. They want to get other people as excited about it as they are, so they shot and edited a trailer for the script. UMEC'er Brian Obermiller featured in "Written By"

UMEC member Brian Obermiller is featured in the current issue of Written By, the monthly publication of the Writers Guild of America west. A staff writer for two years at GoldPocket Interactive, Brian and his colleagues share their perspective on the creation of enhanced content for television and the ramifications it may have for screenwriting. Brian creates interactive content for several networks including CBS, Food Network and GSN and is also a member of the WGAw New Media Writers Caucus.

UMEC Advisor Lawrence Kasdan Wins WGA Screen Laurel

Congrats to UMEC Advisory Board member Lawrence Kasdan, receipient of this year's WGA Screen Laurel Award! Mr. Kasdan will receive his award at this February's WGA Awards! The award is given to WGA members "who have advanced the literature of the motion picture and made outstanding contributions to the profession of the screenwriter." Previous winners include Billy Wilder, Horton Foote, Preston Sturges, Joseph L. Mankiewicz, John Huston, Blake Edwards, Mel Brooks, John Michael Hayes and David Mamet.

UMEC Advisor Peter Benedek Donates $1 Million to the U

The University of Michigan has announced a commitment from the Benedek Family Foundation to provide approximately $1 million in expendable funds to support projects across the university.

The gift is being provided by U-M alumnus Peter Benedek and his wife Barbara through the Benedek Family Foundation.  Peter Benedek, who graduated from U-M with a degree in history in 1970, is one of the founders and senior partners of United Talent Agency (UTA), where he has built one of the most distinguished careers in Hollywood.

UMEC'er Zack Arnold's Film "Phat Girlz" sold to Fox Searchlight

Image Congratulations to UMEC'er Zack Arnold! He's the editor of the Feature Film Phat Girlz, which was recently sold to Fox Searchlight for mid-seven figures. Two of his assistants, Joe Thompson and Joel Slabaugh were also M alumni. Both Joe and Joel and now working at KO Creative.
